Most of my family was born and raised in the northern-most region of Portugal known Trás-os-Montes, just outside the small city of Chaves. My parents and their siblings learned from my grandparents to sustain themselves on the food they grew and the livestock they raised.
It was hard work, and at the ages of 15 and 16 my parents came to the United States in search of a better life. They and their siblings joined relatives in the town of Ludlow, Massachusetts. With a large Portuguese community, many of them hardworking immigrants, the town had a number of thriving construction companies at the time my family arrived. My father and his brothers eventually found themselves building homes and working in construction.
My parents taught me the importance of working hard. Starting with nothing, they now own a home built by my family from the ground up. Seeing family and friends come together to build our home was a defining moment in my life. My father taught me many important skills on smaller projects, but the feeling I got from helping build a home where there was once nothing, cannot be taught. It is thanks to my family that I have my passion for building and an unparalleled drive for success.
