The bed frame primarily consists of three nearly identical boxes that connect to fit a full-xl size mattress.
The frame is built from a mixture of pine and hardwood. The pine was used for the majority of the frame hidden from view, drastically reducing weight and improving mobility. Only specific hidden pieces, such as the cross-member supports used for the drawer slides, were built from hardwood... providing higher capacity.
Eight carriage bolts are used at four connection points to quickly join the three independent boxes into one frame.
Three drawers, one for each box, were built to utilize nearly the entire space below the bed as storage. Each drawer exceeds 4.8 cubic feet of storage space, and two pairs of 100 lb capacity slides were installed on each drawer to ensure that heavily loaded drawers at a full extension of 21" will not reach capacity.
Plywood is used above each box to properly support the mattress.
